Nigeria: '100 Nigerian Girls Trafficked Out Daily for Prostitution'

Lagos— Authorities in Nigeria should investigate and close down networks that traffic Nigerian women and girls to Côte d'Ivoire and Mali for forced prostitution, Human Rights Watch said yesterday.

The group also called for collaboration among regional leaders to improve border patrol efforts in combating trafficking in person. 

Nigeria: Five Hundred Victims of Human Trafficking Rescued in Sokoto

Sokoto — Five hundred victims of human trafficking have been rescued within the Sokoto zone, NAPTIP Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Shehu Umar has said. Umar who disclosed this while speaking on the human trafficking situation in the zone yesterday, said they received about 102 human trafficking cases since inception of the zone in 2006 and investigated all.

The face of prostitution is changing.... 60-80% of Luxembourg's ever-growing population of women offering sex on the Grand Duchy's streets are Nigerian. 

As the state looks into the implications of hosting brothels, meanwhile outside the face of prostitution is rapidly changing, according to Joé Wissler, head of the Grand Duchy's vice squad. 

"It is difficult to know how many Nigerian prostitutes there are," he admitted when grilled by "But there's usually a steady number of about 20. And they're still flocking to the city."

Nigeria: War Against Prostitution Has My Full Support - Olubolade

Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (Rtd) has said that the war waged against commercial sex workers in the FCT by the FCT administration is worthy of commendation and has thrown his weight behind the war. 

Captain Olubolade who said the girls of easy virtues should busy themselves in other productive ventures however noted that his approach to the ban on prostitution would not be war with the girls. 

Abuja’s losing battle against prostitution

Two months ago, Bala Mohammed, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), gave all commercial sex workers in Abuja two days to quit or leave the city. The territory’s Social Development Secretariat which was mandated to implement the order, has since carried out three raids, but prostitution remains big business in Abuja.
