Nigeria and Uganda plotted to pass anti-gay bills together

President Yoweri Museveni has said the West does not care about development, they only care about gays.

Nigeria and Uganda politicians plotted to pass their anti-gay bills at the same time, Gay Star News can reveal.

Earlier today, Uganda parliament passed the dreaded Anti-Homosexuality Bill – making homosexuality illegal.

Originally known as the 'Kill The Gays' bill, the death penalty has been dropped but people can still get life in prison for homosexuality.

The bill will make it illegal to 'promote' homosexuality and will also jail anyone who does not report homosexual activities to the police.

The Penal Code already provided for penalties up to seven years in prison for ‘attempts’ and up to life imprisonment for ‘acts against the order of natur’.

Ugandan LGBTI people are said to be 'panicked' and 'afraid for their lives'. It has already been predicted it will lead to more deaths in the LGBTI community.

It comes as Nigeria has adopted a bill by the Senate on Thursday (19 December), making same-sex marriage punishable for up to five years in prison. Wedding guests will also be jailed for five years.

The law goes further by sentencing ‘any person who registers, operates or participates in gay clubs, societies and organisation, or directly or indirectly make public show of same sex amorous relationship’ to up to 5 years' imprisonment.

Any human rights advocates will also be jailed.

The new restrictions add to existing laws, which already punish consensual same-sex activity with 14 years in prison, or death in 12 northern states.

Both laws have yet to be signed into law by the Nigerian and Ugandan presidents.

A Gay Star News source told us how they were at an event where the Uganda President Yoweri Museveni was in Nigeria to speak about education on 4 December.

But it was less about the bettering of the mind, but of the evils of homosexuality.

Calling on Nigeria to pass an anti-gay bill to ‘preserve African culture, Museveni said: ‘I want Nigeria to stand with me on this and I wonder why the West is not concerned about the development of my country.

‘They are only concerned about gays.’

Just 16 days later, both countries passed anti-gay bills.
